Founders. Can You Tell Me About The Leadership?
SMART Academy's co-founders are Mr. Lawrence Wong and Mr. Jason Chu. Both are credentialed teachers and dedicated lifelong educators. They have joined together to create a positive summer environment for the youth of Oakland and the greater Bay Area.

Mr. Lawrence Wong, Camp Director.
Lawrence Wong is absolutely excited to be starting S.M.A.R.T. Academy with Jason Chu. Having worked as a middle school teacher at American
Indian Public Charter School for the past four years, Lawrence cannot
wait to serve the Oakland community in a different, more fun capacity.
Lawrence believes that a love of learning is the key to education.
At S.M.A.R.T. Academy, Lawrence plans to foster that love of learning
through SMART's unique model of fun, exercise, critical thinking, and
hands-on learning. When Lawrence is not diligently working on daily
lesson plans, he enjoys playing sports, reading graphic novels,
writing memoirs, and searching for inexpensive meals. Lawrence was
born/raised in San Francisco and educated at UC Berkeley.

Mr. Jason Chu, Site Operator.
Jason Chu is the former Acting Director and Site Administrator of a top-performing charter school organization. As an administrator, Jason worked with board committees and various consultants to develop best practices for the charter organization—from board governance issues to fiscal management procedures. Jason has held various positions in education for the past 5 years and hopes to continue to serve the youth in his new capacity as the Site Operator of S.M.A.R.T. Academy. Jason will ensure that safe and healthy practices are established and maintained in the daily operation of camp utilities and services. Outside of the work setting Jason is an avid basketball player, amateur yogi, and enjoys nature. Jason was born/raised in Rancho Cucamonga (Southern California) and educated at UC Berkeley.
